Our Story

Who We Are

Emmanuel Baptist Church is a Bible-preaching, Christ-exalting church serving Winchester and the surrounding community. For generations, Emmanuel has sought to faithfully proclaim God’s Word, reach people with the gospel, and provide a church home where believers can worship, grow, serve, and fellowship together.

Our History

Emmanuel Baptist Church was founded on June 5, 1966, by Pastor Dan Morris as an independent Baptist church committed to the pattern of the New Testament. The church first met in the Sarah Zane Fire Hall before gathering in a home later that year. In 1971, the first church building was constructed on the present property, followed by a major addition in 1976.

From its earliest years, Emmanuel developed a strong commitment to missions and Christian service. Over the decades, members have entered full-time ministry, missionaries have been supported around the world, and the church facilities have continued to grow to meet the needs of the ministry.

Pastor Steve Rebert became pastor in 1985 and served Emmanuel faithfully for more than four decades. During those years, the church became debt-free, renovated and expanded its facilities, added educational and ministry space, and continued reaching people with the gospel.

On Mother’s Day, May 10, 2026, Charles Hatcher became pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Today, Emmanuel continues the same commitment to Bible preaching, missions, discipleship, and reaching Winchester and the surrounding community with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Where we're headed

We are grateful for the heritage God has given Emmanuel, but we believe our best days of ministry are still ahead. Our desire is to remain faithful to God’s Word while strengthening our ministries, reaching new families, investing in the next generation, supporting missions around the world, and making Christ known throughout our community.
